Svartifoss, Iceland

Svartifoss Falls, Iceland

Iceland's landscape is truly dramatic, a mystical world of ancient glaciers, waterfalls, wild horses, ice and fire. From the lava fields to the majestic glaciers, its truly extraordinary.

After about an hour hike, I reached Svartifoss. The waterfall is flanked by black hexagonal basalt columns. It was worth the hike!

The basalt columns have provided inspiration for Icelandic architects: the Hallgrímskirkja church in Reykjavík, and also the National Theatre.
