I have this coffemaker too! It doesnt see
much action anymore because I got a simple
human coffeepod brewer. I kept making too
much coffee at once with the lovely
cuisinart.
Peets is ok. Good strong brew. But for those
of us who like their coffee in less than a
soup bowl ;-) .... nothing beats a nice
espresso ( ristretto) made with fresh ground
Illy Coffee. oh yeah baby! Un Vero Cafe! xcaballe what say thee....
I am afraid bici is right. And the link he
posted is good too. :-) Born and raised in Italy, I was never
particularly fond of espresso when I was
there, but for some reason after I moved to
the U.S. I started longing for a good cup
once in a while. Therefore I discovered a
highly competent distributor
(WholeLatteLove.com) and finally bought a
Gaggia Syncrony (many many years ago). We
have to thank Achille Gaggia for espresso, so
I figured I couldn't go wrong. And yes, you
have to spend many hundreds of dollars for a
good espresso machine. Once you have a
machine like this, THEN you can start telling
the difference between Illy and the others.
It is very interesting for example to compare
the Lavazza varieties against Illy. I think
the few top-level Lavazza blends beat Illy
but of course being from Turin I am biased.
:-)
I love to use a French press, and I roast
Yauco Selecto beans in my popcorn popper.
Not too long ago I got the Gevalia coffee
free coffemaker, which is DOT DOT DOT
Programmable! Key feature: Hot coffee
I am not a big fan of dark roasted beans. It
always taste burnt. I prefer my coffee at a
full or medium roast. That way I can drink a
whole cup without the need for a sweetener or
milk. I also like my coffee beans fresh so I purchase from local roasters,
purchasing small amount (1/2 pound), but
often (one or twice weekly). Also, those
drip coffee makers take up so much space and
being the only adults in the house we prefer
a french press (Bodum). Turns out Peets does too.
Have you figured out how to make this coffee
maching not beep when it's finished? When I
make a pot of coffee at 5 a.m., I don't want
it beeping and waking up my family.
I need to figure out how to get Peets here in
Thailand. They actually do grow coffee on
some of the mountains out here (Suthep,
Inthanon, Wawee) but it is the roasting that
is key...

For my taste, this is not coffee at all... this is something that resembles coffee but actually it's dirty water. ;)

Everybody digs Peets except xcaballe.
Coming to you live from Berkeley, home of the first Peets in the known universe.

I don't like Peets either -- usually too acidic for my tastes (could be just the Peets I go to).
Some say with this brewer if you press the 1-4 button it will brew a better pot. Something about raising the temp a few degrees.

Got the same coffee maker, and a matching burr grinder. I've not yet had Peets though. I suppose that's some sort of travesty, really.

Do I detect a bag of the dreaded Starbucks coffee hiding in the back?
