"Mill Stone"

"Mill Stone"

An artifact from the past. This mill stone is on display at the High Falls area of Rochester. This area was the birth place of the city because of the three cataracts on the Genesee river. These cataracts had great potential for the water power they could provide. By 1838, Rochester, NY, the "Flour City"was the largest flour-producing city in the United States. Having doubled its population in only ten years, Rochester became America's first "boomtown".
