New running shoes

It's about time I replaced my running shoes. My old Nike's are about 4 years old. There used to be a time when I didn't think the shoe mattered but it does. My shins learned that lesson. I'm hoping a fresh pair will help me run longer. It's all in the mind...

It is all in your head, but having new shoes sure does help! I usually replace my shoes twice a year when my shins and knees start screaming...4 years??????

There's nothing wrong with my current pair. I don't have any pain but 4 years is long overdue. They've held up well probably because I run on a treadmill versus outdoors and I don't run very far :)

Years ago I had a pair of Adidas that killed me. Then my friend took me to Metro Run Walk where someone watched me run and told me I needed a shoe to correct overpronation so now I'm hooked on this model. They aren't the coolest looking Nike's but they're light and make it easier to run.

That is the best place to buy shoes! Not until I started going there did my shin splints go away.

Finally. Did you get the upgrades of the same model?

      Finally, it happened to me...

Yep, a new version of the same shoe. I was about to order it from Nike but I got lucky and found it half off at DSW! Time to break them in tomorrow.

Yes, getting a new pair of shoes actually does motivate you to run. It sounds really silly, but it's true. I'm a Brooks fan myself. Buying a pair of their running shoes feels like I'm running on clouds.

Also, a semi-fun tidbit to know is that a really good pair of running shoes are supposed to last you about 500 miles.

Have fun! We should organize a DC Social run sometime ;)

I'd be down for that. There's the St. Patrick's Day 8K in March. Just a 5-miler....

Yeah, 500miles if you have ideal feet....not many people are like that.

Only 5 miles?! Um, I can't run with you guys. You'll leave me in the dust. I can run maybe 2 miles... on a good day. :) By no means do I consider myself a runner. I do it more to see results, not because I enjoy it. Although, I wouldn't mind joining you all for an informal run.

You may only be able to run 2 miles at a time, but at least you'll look good doing it.

For me, in college I once bought an expensive pair of running shoes to try and impress the ladies at the gym. Umm, I think that's the last time I ran anywhere. Oh, no matter how expensive the shoes, my chicken legs got me no ladies.

@Cesar: you've never run from the cops before?! That's the best kind of exercise.

2 miles it is then! It's a good distance for a jog.

      Maybe just a one-miler to a bar? :)

Ha, a short jog (to a bar) is okay with me. Maybe when it warms up a bit. And I'm sure chicken legs could do it too. :)
