Humber Super Snipe Series IV (1964)

Humber Super Snipe Series IV (1964)

Humber Super Snipe Series IV (1962-64).

In October 1958, Humber, now part of the Rootes Group introduced a large luxury car, the Super Snipe. To avoid confusion with earlier cars which were designated as Mks the new cars had Series designation. The new car was based on the unitized chassis and body of the four-cylinder Humber Hawk, but with a new 2.6 litre, 2,651 cc, six-cylinder overhead-valve engine based on an Armstrong Siddeley design. The Series III from 1960 introduced Britain's first quad head lights. The Rootes Group ceased production of the Super Snipe in July 1967, by which time the group was under the control of the American Chrysler Corporation.
The 1962 Series IV had a slightly higher-tuned engine giving 124.5 bhp as against 121 bhp. It can be distinguished by its revised rear-window treatment (doesn't wrap around quite as much as earlier models), Snipe bird badge on grille, opening quarter-light windows in the rear doors, and other trim differences.
