Sometimes when clients first see their proof galleries they say something along the lines of: 'gosh, I can't believe we look so happy and relaxed, at the shoot it felt chaotic: chasing the kids around and telling them off for fighting, I thought we must have been the worst clients ever! But you somehow managed to capture us just the way I wanted us captured, loving each other and having a ball!'

It's true that sometimes a session doesn't go as imagined or planned. Kids have minds of their own. So does the weather. But it only takes a moment to capture the truth. Sometimes the truth is a tantrum and a child-turned-devil, sometimes the truth is the sweetest kiss from the sweetest little lips.

The last few days have been rough for us. Toby's been sick and is now refusing to eat. He's tired, cranky and has tested us to the absolute ends of our patience. Not exactly the long weekend we had in mind. But it only takes a moment. And this moment, this image, can carry me through those other moments that we'd rather didn't happen.

And that's one of things that I love most about photography.
