Ah well, pretty crude, but posting anyway. We had a nice run today and the sledders were all pumped up. The temps ranged from about +2F to -10F. My friends know that I love running with them and their dogs, but there is something special too about being out on the trail with just my gang. Anyway I'll probably continue to play with this video thing. Happy Thanksgiving.

The beginning really got Fox's attention. His head tilted this way, then back the other way . . . nice run. Can't wait for the IMAX version.

Oh, I'd love to see that head tilt :-)
They are noisy at the start and go silent as soon as we begin to move. Thanks.

Woah! your dogs move really quick!
    Wonderful video!
    Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

I love it! They're sooooo pumped up and ready to go, so noisy ... "hurry hurry we're ready let's go come on come on come on!!" ... going this way and that. And then when it's time, they're all together, focused, quiet, and really rolling. Wow, this is amazing. And it looks like a ton of fun!
    Thanks for sharing your experience!

utski - Thank you. They were moving quite nicely. I don't think I ran them far enough because they weren't tired at the end, but that's okay, it's early yet. I like to move around 8-12 mph, but sometimes we pick up to 15 or higher.

    illona - Thanks!!

debee - You nailed it. Hookup is sometimes stressful and over time I've learned what dogs I can add and when. Some like to chew, either the lines or their neighbors (neither is tolerable), some like to scream and jump and lunge, and some are calm. If I had more time, or more help I could probably train them to be calm at hookup. Well, maybe not. And yes, it's lots of fun and very rewarding when it all works, and challenging when it doesn't quite work.

Jo and I watched this twice... we both loved it. You could feel the wind blowing in your face... just amazing Robert. I am really impressed at how quickly the responded to your commands... especially the one to go!

Nice work and keep these coming, it was the highlight of our morning...

OMG, LOVED it! What a noisy gang they are! And I thought Ouzo was getting on my nerves with his whinning - I have to be thankful (today at least, it's the tradition) for him not trying to compete with Being There dudes and dudettes :) You know what I found intriguing? The fact that while everyone was yelling their impatience, Beluga was calm and a bit embarassed :)

Great feeling of being there with you on the sled, from the confort of my chair.

Jazz is really excited about the barking dogs, Tried to get a picture, but by the time I got the camera he wouldn't cooperate. What a fun ride from the warmth of the house.

Great job... :) I am only using my reserve rescues for now and will be adding more of them next year as flickr, zipp and cheeko grow up. I want to stick to my using the local rescues to show locals why they should take care of their dogs. I just got a more harnesses and longer center line from Duffy's (Whitehorse sledding center).

    Earnin' those moose bones!

Scotty and M'Juvi got pretty excited, too. Then I told them there was snow involved...

  22. SFKelly (27 months ago | reply)

Dashing through the snow, on a ten-dog open sleigh, down the trail we go, barking all the way... This is so exciting to watch, and it does seem like you're going very fast indeed.
(I love the way they get so quiet when the running begins in earnest, so excuse the barking phrase above. Poetic license!)

One thing I've always loved about dog sledding is how much the dogs seem to LOVE doing it. My favorite book as a child was Woodsong by Gary Paulson, and have always been fascinated with that lifestye since then. Your pictures and video bring it back to life for me.
