I'm not sure the pic "tacked" on with tape really fits your rich color palette and tone of the piece. It feels like two separate styles.

Could you use some family pictures perhaps across the bottom in black and white...see note for placement to blend with the text. There is a lot of text, are you able to send it back for revisions at all?

I agree with iwearbrown: way too much text! Sounds like you may not have had the initial input into text, but I'd send it back and give your expert opinion that it needs to be cut in half.

What families will this be given to. 200K is way more than the number in your church (I assume).

@iwearbrown, I like your idea about using older/bw pictures. I think I'll try that.

I DEF agree about too much text!! Unfortunately, I don't have any say about that though. I'm going to try to get them to cut it down, but not sure if they will do it.

As far as the 200k goes... I have no idea who they think they're going to give them to... my guess is that they're going to pass them out at a convention or something.

Well, a key part of design is presentation of graphics and text. As a designer, you should be included in that conversation. As a freelancer (which I'm assuming you are for this project), you have to decide if you want to be viewed as an expert communicator and insert your opinion/expertise with authority of it you just want to follow directions and collect your check. Sometimes it's easy to resort to the later, but that doesn't always produce the most effective piece (which is what this lab is all about). Help them make the best decisions possible for their time, money and your talent.

I also agree with iwearbrown and BeckyMartin about too much text. I understand not having any control over that though.

If this were my project I would put the family in the same place with the text wrapping but cut the family out and maybe go black and white like iwearbrown suggested. If black and white doesn't look good maybe change the color of the clothes to compliment the existing colors of the entire piece.

I would suggest using the same torn tech. in the header and apply it to the image. making it seem as though the card itself has been torn to expose the family behind it. That way you'll still have space around the image which will help to break up the space from all of the text that you may or may not be able to shorten.
