sweet potatoes

life has been so busy! i've moved into university and have been here and taking class for over 3 weeks now! it's a fun atmosphere and there's so much to do, so it's definitely a bit overwhelming too. one of the things i've started doing is volunteering in the carolina campus community garden where i've picked jalapenos, picked peas, harvested sweet potatoes, weeded, and composted. there's a really diverse crowd of university students to older residents of chapel hill to little kids helping out.

Wow, Time has really flown by! I have lots of new news to share and I'll be sure to update you all more thoroughly later, but I am now a high school graduate! I graduated 8am June 11, 2011 and have committed to attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the main school of the UNC system, also known as Carolina. The university is recognized as the oldest public university in the US and is a 4 year liberal arts college with about 19,000 undergrads. I'll be living on the campus there in a few months and pursuing a tentative major in the biological/psychological/medical sciences realm, but photography will hopefully remain a big passion of mine throughout.

Here's another photo from my trip to the Berkeley Rose Garden in Berkeley, CA. I don't like this one as much as my poppies photo but I don't generally take flower pictures just because I feel like they are overdone (a dime a dozen so to speak), but I liked this enough to add it to my collection. My dad helped me get this shot since this one particular flower, which the petal had fallen off, giving a nice few of the filaments, was a little to high to reach so he boosted me up enough just so I could focus it without having to be unbalanced standing on my toes. My dad has been really supportive with my photography hobby and always tries to help allocate time for photography outings on family trips among other things. Thanks for all the help, Dad! Happy Belated Father's Day!

Anyways, this is a friend of mine, Renu, who will also be attending UNC-CH with me. I think the thing that has made high school most critical in my development as a person was my friends. Though I had some wonderful teachers and was given the opportunity to complete the academically rigorous IB diploma programme, I've been inspired most by the diversity and different perspectives that my friends have shared with me. I have friends born in different countries, who speak different languages, and practice different religions. I have friends interested in becoming history teachers, friends interested in the sciences, like me, and friends interested in becoming writers, like Renu. They've all been able to show me something new and support me through this wild ride. So, thanks to you all--especially to those who care so much that they follow my flickr :P!

Here's a picture from a while ago that I totally forgot about..I went to my cousin's soccer game to take some pictures for their scrapbook and the problem was that the light was wonderful, but not for action shots. All my photos were either washed out or had really heavy shadows both of which are no good for the traditional action shots but here's one that I managed to save. It's not the type of photography that I usually put on flickr but I like it. I really really really advise you to View Larger on Black!
