Our installation confronts “the abject”; the psychological human reaction that
erupts when organic matter produced within a body (hair, blood, !ngernails,
vomit, feces, breast milk, a fetus, etc.) is removed or expunged from the body.

Abjection is impulsive and instinctual; situated within unquanti!able
moments when perceptions of our natural “self ” are transformed into the
repulsive “other”.

Julia Kristeva rests this psychological turning point upon “the fragile border
where identities do not exist or only barely so—double, fuzzy, heterogeneous,
animal, metamorphosed, altered, abject". Abjection identi!es the space where
boundaries between self/other, desire/fear, fantasy/real, erotic/repulsive
simultaneously merge together and break down.
