Pink and Blue Morning at Rockland Lake ~ Knickerbocker Ice Festival

It was nice to walk around the lake. We started out at about 6:30 am. Even then it was a bit too warm for an ice festival. The few thin bits of natural ice were melting, and the sculptures were dripping. Last year was fabulous, weather wise. This year the ice festival area was a grey and brown world & it didn't have any of that winter fairyland energy. I kept hearing people mention about how beautiful it was last year. It was especially tough on the artists this year, who worked harder than ever. The most surreal thing was a sign that said
" children's ice park " -- indicating a forlorn looking expanse of muddy brown with a few plastic toys and some food wrappers scattered about. Yesterday the kids had managed to contruct a few nice little igloos with some man made ice and snow.
In 2011 we went both days & stayed at The festival lot longer attending most of the events. -- it looked like this:
