Leaving the crater

Leaving the crater

As is so often the case, you start at the bottom with fine weather and the time taken to summit allows the weather to come in and make sure you have no view.

Final few metres to the summit of Ngungun

Final few metres to the summit of Ngungun

Ngungun is one of the smaller peaks in the Glasshouse Mtns group. Dozens of people each day make their way up this basic scramble. The views are good.
I've probably only taken a camera up this peak three times at best. That's not much given i've ascended hundreds of times. It's a new camera with a 36x zoom.

Glasshouse Mountains.
Sunshine Coast Hinterland.
South East Queensland.
Australia.
Two of the volcanic plugs making up the group of mountains (about 13 in total) seen by Captain Cook in his voyage of discovery along the east coast. Said to resemble glass houses. Maybe the captain had gardening on his mind at the time.
Both summits here are popular scramles although Crookneck was closed by National Parks in May 1998.
The approach below Salmons Leap has grown increasingly mossy and slippery due to lack of traffic.
As for Beerwah, two major rockfalls below the cathedral over the last 5 yrs or so have left much debris strewn over the main route and it poses a real risk of sending missiles down onto unseen others.
Mt Coonoowrin (nicknamed Crookneck) in the foreground is appx 377m above sea level. The treeline would be at appx 180m.
Mt Beerwah in the background is appx 556m. It is the tallest of the group.

The Red Arete.

The Red Arete.

A multi-pitch climb near to Mt.Cook village. Just a simple grade, in fact you could easily scramble up most of it. Good practice for students on systems for rope management.
