why why why are my photos so soft when viewed on the photo page but much sharper when viewed on black?

I was attending the final goodbye vigil for Tori Stafford, the 8yr old that was abducted and murdered in 2009.
This little girl wanted me to take her photo, her dad said it was ok so I got her to show me her purple butterfly - Tori's favourites.
