The Story to go with:
It is believed that once while Parvati was bathing, she created a human figure from some clay and balm, gave him life and asked him to guard the door while she bathed. After a long period of meditation on Mountain Kailash (Lord Shiva’s abode), Shiva chose that very moment to drop by to see his wife, but was abruptly stopped by the man-god Parvati had posted at the door.Shiva was outraged and cut off the guard's head only to discover moments later that he had killed Parvati’s son! Shiva immediately dispatched his attendants to get him the head of the first living creature they could find. Well, the first living creature happened to be an elephant. As instructed, the head was chopped off and brought back to Shiva, who placed it on Parvati’s son’s body, bringing him back to life. This elephant-headed god was welcomed into the first family of the Hindu heavens and named Ganesha or Ganapati, which literally means the chief of the ganas, or the attendants of Shiva. Ganesha is the foremost god of the Hindu pantheon the most auspicious God of new beginnings. He is worshipped before new beginnings and guards the entrances to temples and homes, also to mine over here in Germany

Beautiful picture and a great narration, Gina. I think even many Hindus do not know these things you have mentioned here about Ganapathy.
"Gana" means "people" (besides "shiva's attendants). Pathy means "Lord" or "king" . So Ganapathy translates to "Lord of the people". In India there is a belief that worshiping Him before stating anything will save one from failure and problems. I think he is the most worshiped God in India.
I am very proud of you, Gina.
Cheers.
Have a nice day.

Liked the tight frame. Nice bright colours and the composition works although I wish the top of the mukut (head gear) was not cropped.

Marvelous exotic colors of celebration! Thanks for a recent visit and a knowing comment. I no longer have much opportunity for travel as you, but I do like pushing my local color into new places. It's another way of going someplace new and trying it on for size..
