Growing Up

Growing Up

This was a difficult shot, not only was it a large family, they requested it be shot in the family room of their home. The sun had set, so there was no natural light, I was dealing with just the light I could provide in a small space.

I had two large "hot lights" lighting the wall behind them, and then 2 strobes lighting the group. I am sure some of the light from the hot lights bled into the group and helped, but I am thrilled with the results.

It's hard to make large groups look natural, my personal preference, but I prefer this any day of the week over a formal picture. I wasn't sure I would be able to create a studio look in a family room, but somehow it worked.

Strobist info: 2 Canon 430 EXii's fired ettl by a canon ste2. Both 45 degrees of the camera, and both shoulder height pointing two group. 2 Photoflex star lights, all the way to the ceiling close to parallel with them, pointing over the group and onto the background.

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas!

Continuing the tradition of years past, I set up a photo booth at my parents house on Christmas eve... so much fun! This is me and my three siblings, we will remember this shot much more than any formal shot you could ever take.

Strobist info. Two 430EXii's, fired remotely by canon ste2 in ettl. The room this was taken in was relatively small, flash camera right was about 6 feet high, 2 feet from camera, I was using it to highlight the background. Strobe camera left was lower, camera height, it was being used as the main light. However, the size of the room, both lights were hitting the people evenly, thus the lack of shadows in the shot.

Backdrop is heavy decorative curtain fabric, folded to look like theater curtains. Simple setup, but so much fun!

ISO 100

Canon 7D, 24-70 2.8L @ 45mm

All post processing was done in adobe lightroom.

Swinging

Swinging

I took this with my Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5 on "Miniature" mode. Edited on my ipad with Photogene.

This was taken at Disney's California Adventure, I loved the miniature effect, gives the shot a little something more. I tried to catch the family so I could give them the picture, but I was not quick enough to track them down.

Something different, started working on this picture thinking vintage, ended up with this.
