Roxborough State Park is a Colorado state park located in Douglas County. The park is southwest of Denver downtown, about 15 miles south of the city of Littleton. Spectacular red sandstone formations (identified by geologists as belonging to the Fountain Formation) can be found in the park. Other examples of Fountain Formation geology in Colorado include Garden of the Gods, Red Rocks Park, and the Flatirons. Roxborough also has examples of Lyons Sandstone, Lykins Formation, Morrison Formation, and Dakota Sandstone. Roxborough State Park is recognized as both a Colorado Natural Area and a National Natural Landmark. Der Roxborough State Park liegt südwestlich von Denver im US-Bundesstaat Colorado, etwa 24 km südlich von Littleton. Auf einer Fläche von 13,5 km² sind in erster Linie die durch Verwerfung und Erosion entstandenen Gesteinsformationen das prägende Element des Parks. Das Parkgelände erhebt sich 1.800-2.200.m über den Meeresspiegel. Die Fountain Formation aus rotem bis grauem Sandstein entstand vor 300 Millionen Jahren durch Verwerfung und unterschiedliche Erosion aus den urzeitlichen Rocky Mountains. Die Sandsteinschicht mit einem Winkel von 60° hat sich dabei auch den Spitznamen Iron Flat (Bügeleisen) eingefangen.
