On the fifth photo of my series from Rothenburg ob der Tauber, a town in Middle Franconia (Germany, Bavaria), I want to show you the Röder Bow and the Markus Tower. They are surrounded by beautiful half-timbered houses.
The Markus Tower was built about 1200, the roof was attached later. The tower has a
height of 27 m and was used as a prison until 1844.
The Roeder Bow is the excessive proceeding of the guard's walkway, probably the rest
for a stronger building of the gate and portcullis. Under the current
pavement are still remnants of an ancient bridge. The construction
period was around 1560.

Mit meinem fünften Foto aus der Serie von Rothenburg ob der Tauber, einer Stadt in Mittelfranken (Bayern), möchte ich euch den Röderbogen mit dem Markusturm zeigen.
Auf den Markusturm trifft vermutlich auch die Bezeichnung Diebsturm zu. Bauzeit war
gegen 1200, das Dach wurde erst später aufgesetzt. Bis 1844 fand der
Turm Verwendung als Gefängnisturm. Auf der Südseite gibt es Reste des
ehemaligen Prangers. Die Turmhöhe beträgt 27 m. Die Schrägstellung
hinter der Ringmauer und neben der vorbeiführenden Straße lässt eine
unabhängige Planung vermuten.
Der Röderbogen ist die überhöhte Fortsetzung des Wehrganges, vermutlich Rest eines
stärkeren Torbaues für Zugbrücke und Fallgitter. Unter dem heutigen
Straßenpflaster befinden sich noch Reste einer ehemaligen Brücke. Die
Bauzeit war um 1560. (Quelle: Rothenburg)
