The grungy and on the edge treatment highlights the misery rather well.
Beautiful capture first and then a gorgeous treatment.
The other day you mentioned about slide shows, dinner, destinations etc.

I love this pic, but it's far too terrible to look at for too long. It's been in my favorites for a couple months, but I'm going to have to take it out, because the intensity of that child's expression makes me think the absolute worst. I regret the un-favorite, but trust me, this is a powerful, powerful photograph. I pray you never capture this level of intensity again, because I feel it could scar you for life.
