Bandelier National Monument
The grand finale of our trip to New Mexico, simply called Upper Falls. The falls is beautiful and the surrounding strata has many different types of texture to make this an interesting photo. A waterfall ranks up there with things people really like to take pictures of, which include birds, flowers, old cars, pretty girls, butterflies, frogs, turtles, old barns, to name a few. The sun was mid day here, with no clouds in the sky, which creates a challenge for getting good color tones, and depth. Fortunately it was a winter sum as opposed to a summer sun. Why is this good? because in the winter the sun sits lower in the sky than in the summer, even at mid day. so there were some shadows in the rocks with helped me get more depth. This is HDR so I had great tone depth, which helped to exaggerate the tones a little more I added a texture, using a multiply blend, then I backed off the opacity until the tone looked perfect to my eyes. To help bring out the detail of the water in the falls I masked out the texture completely for this part of the image, so the falls remained crystal clear under the mask.
