• Any thing special with these?
They look different from the remaining legs with black colour at the end.
  • I looked like transparency here :) - *toki

Thanks for the advice :-) ಹಿರಿಯರ ಉಪದೇಶ

It all happened in Dasara vacation, early in this month.
I had been to the village, where I got married.
*******************************************
An advice of an elderly man was this, to my brothers-in-law:
"Husband of the sister should be entertained by all means, when he arrives to the village.
Otherswise, he may get bored in the village.
So, he may not show interest to come again.
Then, even the sister may not come as regularly as she does now !!!"
*******************************************
So, one of my brothers-in-law proposed me to go and see a waterfall in the forest, nearby.
I accepted with great delight.
I had to take my 3 year-old little daughter also, with me.
It was her first expedition into a forest !
*******************************************
I was little disappointed as the waterfall was not so big, as there were no rains, for few of the past weeks.
But, the little streams, some colourful flowers and butterflies, and the sweet fragrance of the trees made our expedition wonderful.
*******************************************
We rested for a while under a tree, while returning.
Suddenly Kundana screamed aloud: "Appanna, Ago Paamu! ಅಪ್ಪಣ್ಣಾ , అగో పాము!"
(Means - "Papa, see there, it is a snake!")
It was indeed not a snake, but, it was this wonderful creature!
*******************************************
It was almost about 20cm. long, (Perhaps, even more?) with 20 pairs of legs.
Looked very big in the size of my thumb !

It is: Scolopendra ! A Wild centipede.
Refer: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scolopendra_gigantea
and: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scolopendra
It is a surprise for me to learn that it is a beloved pet of many in the world:

Thrilled to capture it !
Many Many Thanks to the old man for his Advice given to my Brothers-in-Law :-))

My dear brother, if Kundana is like my son when he was a little kid (he is seventeen now)..... the centiped will be the scared one! hahaha! he would have finished in a glass jar!
A very nice picture of a wonderful creature, I like the saturation of colors very much. The bands on the insect's back are awesome!
And it had happened to me while traveling in Mexico, the smaller the village, the warmer the people. I am glad your in-laws entretained you. You don't get a brother in law like you every day, right!? ; )
    Regards my dear brother!

    Dear sureshsr,
    Thank you very much.

    Dear sharrockmary,
Thank you very much for all your words.
Kundana was curious to know what that creature was, standing at a distance. She narrated a lot about the "snake", that she encountered in the forest, to her mother grandpartents.
In fact, it was the purpose of taking her to the forest.
Children must be accustomed to the natural world around them.
Thanks again for your encouraging words.

    Dear k.rajeev,
    Thank you very much.

By the way, Have a great Halloween.

    Dear tassie303,
    Yes, Thank you.
If my little girl had not brought it to my notice, perhaps, it could have climbed onto my head !

    Dear Brother,
    Ha Ha Ha,
So Nice it is, to listen to the adventurous nature of Jr.Jose.
    Children must be so.

You are true about the village people.
In fact, the advice the old man was just formal.
My Brothers-in-law were always interested to show me different places around their village right from the time of my marriage, four years ago.
I loved to be their guest for any along time!
    Alas! I couldn't.
Because, I am one of their family members ;-))

Thanks a lot Dear Brother, for your kind words.

    Dear

    Dear Farl,
    Thank you very much.

    Dear mukeshji,
    Thanks a lot.

    Dear

Excellent capture!!!! Very similar to the scolopendra we come across in Mayotte, but I would never come close to it: its bite is horribly painful......

Amazing that you saw this in the wild! Yes, this is a very sought after species by many who keep them as pets. Very gorgeous! Consider adding this and any other centipede or millipede photos to Myriapoda (centipedes, millipedes, etc.) :) All centipede and millipede photos and videos are welcome!
