This is a long exposure taken after sunset in the Bristlecone Pine Forest of the White Mountains in California. This particular grove of bristlecones are the oldest living things on the planet, many of them are over 4000 years old and the oldest has been dated to over 4700 years (yes, that's four thousand seven hundred)! The trees are about the most twisted, gnarly things you'll ever see and only live at extremely high elevations, these are at over 9000 feet.

This picture is awesome in the truest sense of the word. I wonder if I could get your permission to post this picture on my personal blog along with a poem I came across (I have a pretty small readership--it's just a little family blog). I would link back here and credit you. If you would rather I didn't that's fine and I understand. Just wanted to be honest and ask first. At any rate, thank you for sharing this beautiful picture. I was moved by it.

a fantastic series of these venerable trees. It is an awesome experience to see trees this old.
