Lush Desert

Lush Desert

I was going through my desert wildflower shots from last year, hoping to find some decent bloom somewhere out there this year - it should be happening about right now. This is from Bartlett Lake, where I met up with Mike and Jill (no introduction needed) for the day. Not sure why I didn't like this shot originally but I decided it was worth processing.

Random educational stuff: the mountains in the background are the Mazatzals, the yellow flowers are poppies, the purple flowers are lupine, the red ones could be chuparosa (not sure about that one, any botanists out there feel free to correct me if I'm wrong), the cacti are saguaros and that shiny substance in the middle of it all is called water - which is quite rare out here in the desert. That pretty much sums it up.

Hoodoos & Stars

Hoodoos & Stars

The stars will look better if you view it large on black!

Taken last year at about 3 A.M. on a lonely cliff on the Arizona/Utah border. Yes, I realize that it's kind of strange to be wandering around on this cliff in the middle of the night but it seemed like a good idea at the time.

Octopus's Garden

Octopus's Garden

Don't view this large - the cactus needles will get too big and come right through the screen and poke your eye out! No seriously, the detail in the needles will look way cool in the large version. While I'm on the subject, what's up with these tiny little images that are the main post? It seems like every image looks better large on black...so why don't they just give you the option to have the background black with a larger image? Why do I have to keep asking everyone to hit the little magnifying glass thingy? I mean how hard could it be to just give the option to have a large on black image pop up right when you hit the thumbnail? I mean flickr has to be pulling in like a gazillion dollars per year - can't they pay some egghead to think of stuff like this and make it happen? OK, I'm done...I think I feel a bit better now!

I am a posting maniac these days, I don't know what's gotten into me. Ya gotta love desert vegetation, it's quite beautiful in a sort of bizarre way.

Geology

Geology

Looks even bigger if viewed large - no kidding!

Got out to the reservation for a few hours yesterday and checked out this remote location. There is a never ending supply of amazing locations out there which are pretty much undiscovered, hidden in canyons and mesas around the rez.

You really have to to see this on the black background for all the stars to pop - thanks!

This is from a moonlight hike at the Toadstool Hoodoos in Utah. All of the light here is natural moonlight. That's all I have to say about that.
