"Supermoon" rises over BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, near Atlanta, Georgia.
Well, I'm not so sure that the super moon ended up being all THAT super, but it was fun to watch it rise. Fortunately, we had some light clouds (and probably pollution) that gave it a great orange color and kept it from blowing out in the completely dark sky. If only it had risen about 30 minutes earlier! What was super, however, was an app on my iPad that showed me exactly where and when the moon would rise over this temple in Lilburn, Georgia. It uses Google Earth and superimposes sunrise, sunset, moonrise and moonset angles over any location for any day and time. Since it showed the moon rising right behind the temple and I didn't have any other location scouted out, I decided to head out and check it out. (The app is called "LightTrac" if anyone is interested and so far it really works great.)
This is one exposure. A click definitely makes it more worthwhile to see larger on black. I probably need to work on lightening up for the temple a little but for now this will have to do. Sorry I haven't been commenting lately, but I have been keeping up with everyone's images. Will try and get caught up soon.

Good morning Jeff...and what a neat shot. Nice timing the way the moon is staged. And what a beautiful structure...looks way out of place for Georgia. No super moon here...solid overcast all weekend :-(
I hope you are well and have a truly nice day and week.

Wow! This is almost surreal. What an incredible capture - hard to believe this is Georgia. That App sounds fabulous. Note to self ... "Get an iPad"!

I don't know SFA about photos, but this is a really nice shot, beautifully composed, the colour's are amazing, I don't even know how you managed to get the camera to take the shot. Technically I couldn't do this shot with an old Nikon K-1000 and superfast film, and I tried a lot.

The light on the temple is absolute perfection and that burnt orange orb behind is such a great contrast!

Great shot, Jeff! Most enjoyable. I go by the temple often, and it is beautiful any night, but this is truly special.
