Broken Hearth

Broken Hearth

From an old abandoned house in Elbert County, Georgia. This was taken through a window, but I did go in and wander around a little. This place is not long for this world.

"Cars"

"Cars"

Took a ride through east Georgia on Sunday, hoping for some interesting foggy landscapes. What I found instead was the little town of Carlton, where apparently old cartoon movie stars are literally put out to pasture . . . :)

Going Green

Going Green

I haven't had many "nature" images in my photostream lately. I had planned to remedy that this past weekend, but the weather didn't really cooperate. So, I went trolling through my archives instead, looking for a Spring waterfall to post to remind me that warmer weather is coming and that I need to get outside more. This is an old favorite, Dry Falls, just off the road near Highlands, North Carolina.

Saint Mary's Church

Saint Mary's Church

Yes, another interior shot. I definitely need to get outside more these days! This beautiful Catholic church stands in the heart of Annapolis, Maryland, and was built in the mid-1800's. I wandered in to see if I could take a few pictures but it was pretty dark. As I was getting ready to leave I heard some rustling in the choir loft so I found the stairs and decided to investigate. I found someone up there going through some old sheet music and asked if I could take some pictures of the sanctuary. He said "sure, want some light?" and flipped several switches so the place lit up like a Broadway stage. I fired away for a half hour or so. Always nice when you can rely on the kindness of strangers. (And no photographers were hit by lightning while photographing this church . . . )

Sanctuary

Sanctuary

"I prefer to visit churches when they are empty -- less chance that others will be injured when the lightning bolt strikes!"

This is the sanctuary of the Central Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, which is located directly across the street from the State Capitol. One of the oldest churches in Atlanta, it was spared when the priest of the Catholic church next door interceded and asked General Sherman, also a Catholic, not to burn it on his "march to the sea" during the Civil War. The curved pews and Victorian-inspired decor make for a beautiful interior space. Much better details if viewed large.
