Goodbye Chance We miss you already
We buried him this morning. Chance was about 14 and had been with us 13 years. Thats a long time for a Bernie. Big dog, big heart, loyal, protective.....all he asked for was a scratch behind the ears and left over homemade chicken soup. I've owned a lot of dogs, but never one with such strength of character.

I am so sorry about your loss, Peachy. My heart is with you. It's so difficult to have to let them go. No worry, Chance will be met at the gate by my family of Gordon Setters: Ginger 10 y.o., Parade, 10 y.o., Sonata 12 y.o., Elixir 11 y.o., Clouseau, my dear Puli, 13 y.o. They'll greet and take care of Chance forever.

They absolutely become family members Teresa is right - too many dogs, cats, even people go without the nurturing and attention Chance evidently had. It still hurts, though.

aww sorry. You still have Greta. Chance looked pretty perky for an old dog. You took good care of him

Mike, he tried very hard not to show his age. It was as if he refused to get old. Even with all the problems he had, he still insisted on watching over the boys and going on our walks with us. We would try to sneak off sometimes so he wouldn't go. His hips were really giving him fits over the last year. His heart finally just gave out on him.

Loving pooch! Great way to go though, with his boots on so to speak. A lesson for us to keep active as we get older.

R.I.P., Chance. I'm very sorry J2P. :(
My old Newf was like that, too. I got him as a pup and had him for almost eleven years. Even after his hips didn't co-operate very well anymore, he still wanted to go everywhere I went and though it was obvious that it hurt him to get up, he'd still position himself between me and anyone he didn't know who might come to the door. Old or not, he'd still give that single deep, "Woof" that meant, "You'd better not harm my mama."

Thanks for the visit MP. Chance wasn't much of a barker. Just like your Newf, one deep "Woof" made everyone pay attention. Little did they know what a softy he was.
