Saab Aero X Concept.
The Saab Aero X concept car in the middle of the cockpit opening sequence - it really is a sight to be seen! This fully working concept car runs on pure ethanol (although the rep tells me that you can also fill it up with ordinary 98 octane petrol).
Everything about this car is wondrously ridiculous - it's an 'environmentally friendly' car yet it does 0-100 faster than a Porsche? To open the 'doors' the entire roof lifts off, but it isn't a convertible? And 325mm wide 23inch rear wheels? Oh my!
Saab even have a dedicated driver who goes everywhere with the car
(ala Bugatti Veron). He's the only one allowed to drive it. He's the
only one who even touches the keys.
To see a demonstration of the doors opening we were told by a Saab rep
that we would have to ask him ourselves (because "he's already
done it twice this week and I don't know if he'll want to do it again") ... so
we went over to a couch in the corner where he was hiding and as we
started to ask, the plainly dressed, uninterested looking man casually
glanced up from his magazine, mumbled something that I couldn't
understand, and proceeded to walk over and press a button on the rear
bumper. Then without even bothering to watch he turned around and went
back to his reading...
Thanks Mr! :-)
About the car;
"Weighing 1,500kg, the 7-speed gearbox combines with the
ethanol-powered turbo engine to accelerate from 0-100km/h in 4.9
seconds and is electronically limited to a 250km/h top speed. Large
380mm disc brakes are covered by even larger 22- and 23-inch alloy
wheels front and rear, shod with tyres with aspect ratios of 265/30 up
front and 325/25 at the rear."

Wow! Looks incredible, one of those shots that just "pop", I'm loving all your shots from the car show, even if they are with the kit lens :P
The car looks sexy for a saab! Interesting to hear your story too, wish I'd gone up. That's it - I'm going to the melbourne show next year!

Teon I wish I'd called you when I had to shoot an exhibition stand last month.... this (standard of all your car show shots) is what I had wanted to achieve - but mine don't look anywhere near this good - well done again :)

Terrific pic and I enjoyed the story! Can you tell us exactly what you did in the way of tone-mapping? Single shot with Photomatix ... and ...(or...)? Sorry to be so inquisitive, but when you see something done right, it pays to try to learn from it.
