4/52.2 Cooking at Home
This is probably only the second time I've cooked at home, mostly because I haven't had all the materials and motivation. I can't wait to cook regularly, right now every time I have to get ingredients, it's over $100 since I just don't have anything.
Finally moving out of my parents' home last year has been really amazing. The only other time I haven't lived at home was during college. Perspective back then was totally different than now. Before it was basically try to find free furniture on the streets and spend almost nothing on food. Now I have this horrible urge to buy nice things (bad habit).
New stove, new pots and pans, everything is new. It's fun though, because you start a new life almost from scratch, so you can have it exactly the way you want. I also live by myself in the house, so it's really fun to get stuff and work on it. It's also amazing how clean I like to have the house. When I was at my parents', embarrassingly, I wasn't nearly as clean.
Anyway, tonight +Tamiko Escalante came over and we cooked dinner. I made a shiitake mushroom balsamic garlic sauce over medium rare tenderloin. This is supposed to serve 4 to 5 people, but we ate it ourselves. Tamiko made a great caprese salad (tomatoes, fresh mozzerella, avacado) and red smashed potatoes. Everything came out really well!
This photo is of me adjusting the heat for the not-yet-cooked meat. Foreground unfortunately had the potatoes boiling already, I didn't want to move it, but it kind of adds to the photo a bit by making it just that much less perfect. I also happened to be wearing a matching tshirt haha. The shirt is my San Diego Museum of Photographic Art's tshirt. It's pretty awesome. Has a twin reflex camera on the front.
And of course, my little owl timer watching over it all!
