05.52 > The continuing story of Geek pt. 9: Lego Geek

If you followed the tales of poor Geek you'd know that his life ended abruptly during a particularly heated game of Dungeons & Dragons with his brothers. Incidentally, they're still on the run from the authorities. If you see them, phone Crimewatch.

Geek's only friend Jeremy has been trying to resurrect his pal, unsuccessfully, since the tragic accident. His efforts included a botched attempt at a magic spell he'd seen in an episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer and accidently chopping himself in half with a homemade lightsaber.

This time round Jeremy's bright idea came from reading about Frankenstein's monster. He found a new, much easier spell that would attach Geek's eternal soul to a vessel other than his own body.

Jeremy already had some ... er ... bits and pieces, shall we say, lying around. The bits that he didn't have, he figured he could add from his rare life-size Lego collection.

To cut a long story short, the spell worked. Geek's soul returned to our plane of existence! Unfortunately, Geek's soul wasn't as pleased as Jeremy had thought it would be.

"LEGO hands Jeremy? A Lego HEAD Jeremy? F**k THAT chummy" were Geek's only words before he, with great difficulty, popped his shiny, odd-shaped head off his shoulders and returned once more to Geek heaven.

Back to the drawing board ...

02.52 > Vinyl junkie

I found this old record in the street. It was all scratched and bent around. I don't know why but this sixth sense, or voice in my head ... or something, told me to bite it. Bite the record it said. So I did. I bit the record.

And all of a sudden choirs of heavenly angels started singing - it was shit so I bit a different bit of it and Metallica (circa Master of Puppets) started playing. Much better.

Dolly Parton appeared (it's one of her records after all) and granted me 3 wishes for freeing her.

I wished for a million pounds, the removal of all crap bands to a distant planet and a new pair of Converse. Oh, and world peace but I lost count and that was my fourth wish so it didn't happen.

Come to think of it, none of my wishes came true, which means either Dolly Parton's apparition is a liar or I made all this up because I took a photo that required some ridiculously stupid and convoluted explanation to make it make sense.

Strobist info: SB700 through softbox high left to front at 1/8 power. SB600 camera left at 1/16 power, flagged to prevent spill onto the wall behind me. Both fired by CLS.

01.52 > ZAP (or the exploding shoulder)

01.52 > ZAP (or the exploding shoulder)

This could be either [a] some kind of magicky thing where I can shoot light outta my hands or [b] my arm's fallen off and, as a being of pure energy housed inside a worthlessly inefficient human body, am bleeding light profusely outta my shoulder.

You choose, I'm comfortable either way.

I'm back with another 52 Weeks because I've missed the struggle of coming up with ideas and seeing them through to a finished photo. I enjoy the weekly fight with myself to produce something cool, and while I don't always win I do always learning something. And I've got a lot to learn because really ... I've still only scratched the surface of understanding photography.

And I mean to continue scratching until the surface positively bleeds knowledge into my head ... which is kind of yucky but you know what I mean.

Happy new year everyone - let's make the year 2012 our bitch ...

Strobist info: SB700 to camera right at full power through an umbrella. You won't be surprised to know the SB600 at 1/8 power was handheld. All fired by CLS.
