Something Out of a Cloudy Night

Something Out of a Cloudy Night

went out on the Grasslands with my friend David Kingham and a first time meeting Flickr shooter Robert AKA McF Studios. we had a interesting time trying to find something that was a compelling foreground element for the "Super Moon" and could not find what we had hoped. at the last possible moment, we chose to go back to the tried and true windmill that David and i seem to shoot ever so often. we did not go directly to the right spot the first time and burned a bit of extra fuel, and passed the best shot of the night at 65 MPH, but we did make it to the scene in time. we waited 15 minuts past the moon rise time, and finally saw it peak through the clouds.... it was not super by this time. oh well in another 20 years we will have another Super Moon, and David and i will probably still be racing trying to find the "Shot" and end up out in the Grasslands again.

shot notes: nothing great, just a 30 second exposure, jeep removal, photographer removal, and sent through silver effects pro. added a lot of film grain in Silver effects. did not care much for the color version, may show up at a later date.

Arches and Shadows

Arches and Shadows

this was shot yesterday with my friend Eddie_tk and his friend Rockypix . we went to NCAR in boulder co. it has a lot of interesting architectural features. we needed to get there with some different lighting conditions to capture more of the features! maybe next time, Eddie will not have a dead battery!

It was good to finally meet Rockypix, as Eddie has talked of him for some time. he has a lot of information to pry out.

The Square Root of Things

The Square Root of Things

Yea it is getting pretty lame.... anyway, this is another square of a shot similar to the one below. i did crop it in very closely as i wanted to show the detail in the roots.

i did play with this one a good bit. it is a 5 stop blend. i also did a little dodging.

the coloring in the wood is very cool! i hope you like it.

The Root of Things.

The Root of Things.

I found this root ball of a tree that has blown down years ago very interesting. the rocks where still stuck in the ball. I do not know why, but I have been drawn to root balls for many years. I am not sure if it is because it is what gives the trees life, or just a tangled mess of things.

not a big fan of the bushes in the back, but I did like the skys. I may do one of a closer shot, to better show the details of the tree, but I did not want to post that first.... oh well, maybe I will post something better soon.....

Going Square Again.

Going Square Again.

played with this image for some time. did not know what i was going to do with it, nor am i truly happy with it yet. the light was poor, the wind was blowing, and my pants where ripped.... i found the rocks leaning very interesting. how did they get that way? i could not lift them. the snow drifting and the footprints where very cool to look at. i must say that this image was more compelling out of the camera than it was through the viewfinder.... i guess that has been happening to me more and more these days.

i thought that the square format worked the best for this image, so there you go. once you jump, you will fall again and again.
