Abandoned Harbor

This was my first attempt at HDR photography. It took over a dozen shots of this abandoned harbor and boat and combined them using nothing more than Photomatrix 2.4

I like this version much more than Photoshops attempt to do the same. This one came out much darker and more dreary than the Photoshop version and in return brings everything home for the overall atmosphere that I was trying to attempt.

i dont see how this is HDR.
it looks like its just one image.
i thought HDR was supposed make it like, different sections different tones, colors, etc.

im doing a project on HDR,
and i'm just trying to figure out how this is HDR,
cuz i've just now started researching it.

yes it's HDR, if you download it, look the levels in photoshop or something like that, you'll see the stretched curve from dark to the light tones. i like it for it's reality.

This is nice. What is it about ships, industrial looking buildings and sky that make such great HDR subjects? Yours is a perfect example.

unmistakeable_chemistry: hdr photography lets you capture more detail by increasing the range of light intensity you can capture. In this case, you can see huge detail in the sky (which in reality would have been very bright) but still huge detail in the building and boat (which in reality would have been very dark). Try taking a similar picture with one single exposure and you will see the point - either the sky will be perfect and the boat too dark, or the boat will be perfect and the sky too dark. HDR lets you get the best of both worlds.

This one turned out great with the dreary clouds and the bunker-like building. A great subject for HDR!
