Heaven on Earth - Foggy Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco, CA
PLEASE press L to view larger on black
So the story goes like this. About a year and a half ago, I saw this and then I had to endure months of physical therapy due to my jaw falling on the ground. Ever since then, this local photographer Max has been posting some amazing images from the Golden Gate Bridge. Since then, I have been determined not only to capture this amazing scene but to witness it for myself. For the past year and a half, I have been monitoring the weather and traveling to the Golden Gate Bridge in my desperate attempt to capture this fog rolling over the city of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge.
This week, the fog finally came! I did not know how long it would stay, so Alan and I arrived at the Golden Gate Bridge for FIVE sunrises in a row. Yes, I know it's a bit obsessive but the end results equals approx 500 images like this!
This is the north tower of the Golden Gate Bridge peeking through the fog. This shot is one of the first images I took on the first day; and not only did we witness the low fog rolling in, the sunrise provided some nice light. I'm not sure how many times that has happened? As I was shooting, I was asking myself, "OMG! I wonder if I have to wait another year to see this"? There were many photographers here and most of us were shooting beyond the railing area. At one point while I was shooting a panorama, a person who did not identify himself came over to us and said, "You need to leave this area and return back behind the railings". I said to myself, "I have waited 1 1/2 years for this. I'm not going anywhere"!
Be sure to click here to see James' shot of the south tower.
A huge thanks to Alan for his willingness to never sleep and up to date fog reports. Thank you for your constant support and visits. I hope you all have a great week. Jave

I'm glad you shared it as well. Max has some big shoes to fill, but you've shown a fantastic version of GG. Lovely light, perfect fog - your patience has been well rewarded!

Amazing! I really like seeing how the fog makes it's own rolling landscape - with only the top of the bridge giving us a clue. Great work :)

What a moment, Jave. I would have been speechless in awe. No one could have dragged me away either. Simply stunningly gorgeous. What I'd give to see that with my own two eyes, but this is the next best thing. I'm constantly amazed by this beautiful world we live in.

Sometimes when you have a shot across your forehead, you need to to do whatever it takes before it eats you up. Breathtaking shot. Jave. Congratulations!

Awesome, Jave.... Funny.... You linked my least favorite of all my GGB fog images, But I am not complaining... Thank you!
I know the feelings you speak of When viewing this amazing event. I tried for almost a year to catch it, and when I did, it changed a lot of things for me. As funny as it may sound, it really did. I knew it was special. How special, I did not know at the time.
It was great to meet up with you guys... I look forward to seeing all the different images that are uploaded from this morning. From all the "chimping" going on, I know there is some amazing stuff on it's way. Some sick, nasty, perverted, stuff.
Here... I love those high clouds. Those clouds, and fog together are even more rare than the fog alone. A great image... Very well captured, and very well deserved. My hat is of to all of you for you savage sick nastyness that drove you to come up.

This is amazing Jave!! I know exactly what you are talking about, I have made many early morning runs up there to find absolutely no fog, or be completely socked in and not be able to see more then a few feet....I made it up there Sunday evening and caught the tail end of some cool fog, but this is just amazing! One of these days I will time it right...
Since you have soooo many of these great shots now, you want to let me have one?!..LoL
Nice work Jave...

Great GGB shot with the seemingly alltime lasting fog.
I like the views with it - particular for shooting it's the best you can get from the bridge.
Nice crisp, clean and clear work.
Beautiful color gradients in the sky.

Sweet shot man! Congrats. I might be in that area end of the week. Is it usually foggy at this location even when the forecast calls for clear skies? Any recommendations?

Gorgeous, Jave! I've been waiting for that shot, too. I watched the bay area webcams helplessly over the last few days from Tahoe. I'm so glad you were out there to catch it!
