Finland 1905 - 1993
Groundbreaking Finnish ceramist, her contribution helped the Finnish art industry gain international fame. Studied ceramic in Graz, Austria, her sister who worked at Arabia convinced Friedl to move to Finland. From 1939 she starts to develop rice porceline and has a interest in glaze as well as different glaze-techniques. The production of rice porcelein stopped in 1974. Friedl Kjellberg also made a great deal of one-off ceramics: large porcelain bowls, vases and bottles with oxblood, copper and titanium glazes glowing in reddish brown and cobalt blue hues. In the 1940s Fridl creates objects in her characteristic copper glaze. She worked 46 years at Arabia.
