Netla's photostream

This old building was originally built to house livestock but later became a storehouse. It had two gables and was built in the same shape as an old-fashioned turf house. The roof was made of wood and turf, while the walls and gables were concrete. The roof is gone and the top of one gable has fallen down, but one room is still used to store stuff, mostly oil drums and fence wire, while the other acts as an occasional temporary corral for horses.

It belongs to a farm that is no longer inhabited year round, but the main house is used as a summer house.

The photo was taken in colour, but as it was pretty much monochromatic anyway I went all the way and turned it into a black-and-white image.

Gently HDRd from 5 images.

This is a double-processed HDR image. I did a series of tests in Photomatix, merging two different exposures, using all of the standard settings. I then merged and tonemapped four of the resulting images, based on evaluated exposure values, and got this, and finally did a bit of tweaking in GIMP. Much to my surprise, I discovered what looked like a face on the side of the building when I looked at it. The face is completely incidental, no Photoshop trickery, just an eerie surprise.

The mist rising from the Blue Lagoon's mineral pool gives the pool and surroundings a mystical feel. In the dark the water looks more greenish than blue.

Yesterday I was at a conference at the Blue Lagoon spa. Taking some time off from the meetings, I took some photos of the lagoon. There was a photoshoot going on: one photographer, a pretty model in a bikini, and a man who may have been an assistant. They went to various different places along the lagoon, and I couldn't help but feel sorry for the girl in the bikini, because it was only 8 °C outside and she never got to actually put more than her feet in the warm water. Here they are moving from one location to another.
