up to now, this has been the driest Northern California winter in living memory ... normally this whole region would be under several feet of snow throughout January, but last week the Desolation Wilderness Area was completely snow-free and comfortably warm during the day . still, the cold nights leave wonderful ice formations and hard frozen lakes
