Eclipse 2012Play Video

Eclipse 2012

Dear All. I have had a dry spell in my photography lately. However I just got a new EOS 5DIII and decided to break it in my photographing the recent annular eclipse. Gretchen and I drove up to Reno, NV (about 8 hours) and observed it from Pyramid Lake. Conditions were very nice, so I put together this little animation. Here are frames taken 5 minutes apart for about 2.5 hours. As you can see we saw a full annular eclipse. You can also see three sunspots (when they aren't covered by the moon!). I used a 70-300mm zoom lens, a 2x tele-converter and stacked OD3 + OD1 filters. These filters cut the light down by a factor of 10,000. I tried a OD5 filter (1/100,000), but it was too much considering how slow this lens is. Enjoy!

Holiday 2011 Manta

I couldn't decide which Holiday card I liked the best, so this year we have two! Thanks again to Dave Burroughs for supplying the base image of me and the Manta.

Attack run

Attack run

I just missed the shark eating a piece of tuna, but you can still see aggressive posture and a hint of the tuna in her gullet. It also has an interesting combination of motion blur on the body, but the teeth are perfectly sharp (in more ways than one). I also like the sun rays and the rainbow on the body.
