There Are Angels Among Us

There Are Angels Among Us

Today was Nirvana for this photographer. And for the birds at the lake. Temperature approached 60 degrees, bright sunshine all day, and continuing warm weather has allowed for significant open water. The ducks and geese were literally FROLICKING.

Nearly shirt sleeve weather, I stayed for several hours, and managed to get a lot of decent action shots. The D300 doesn't get as close as the D7000, but does achieve a much higher percentage of well-focused images. That means quite a few duck and geese photos over the next few weeks.

Temperatures are predicted to be above 40 degrees for the next five days, but with only sporadic sun. When it pops out, I'll go back for more.

Three Young Bucks Roaming

Three Young Bucks Roaming

To be clear, these deer are running completely free. The fence in the background encloses private property on the other side.

A large railroad switching yard runs between Cedar Lake and the deep woods along the Cedar River. These deer are part of the herd that lives in the woods. This is an access road leading in to the switching area. The deer frequently travel through here, back and forth between the lake and the woods.

This is the first time I've seen three bucks together, though this was at some distance. I was overjoyed to get this series of photographs, even from a long way off.

Reaching For The Sky

Reaching For The Sky

I don't know what this flower is, but when I saw it I knew that it had to be photographed. I chose a low position for the camera to isolate the blooms against the sky. Very asymmetrical, but I think it works.

High Dynamic Rose

High Dynamic Rose

Last June I photographed a similar Rose, and uploaded the image in August. It was presented realistically, with modest processing.

This Rose was photographed in September. I've spent the last several days trying to get my single image HDR plug-in re-installed. Finally did, and wanted to use it a bit more robustly, as an experiment. This HDR (high dynamic Rose) is presented as an artistic interpretation, not a photo-realistic image.

Hope you enjoy it.
