Les Danoises *

Danish girls on their bikes, on their way home, on the City Hall Square. It's what they do. Small but important cogs in the life wheel of this city. The key to any blossoming bike culture is getting women to ride. In Denmark and the Netherlands, half the cyclists or more are women.

Creating safe bicycle infrastructure; bike lanes, bike traffic lights, etc, is paramount in getting more citizens onto bikes.

When I lived in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, USA, elevation 6,732 ft (2,052 m), we had an EXTREMELY active cycling community, and San Francisco, which is known for its steep and ubiquitous hills, has one of the most active cycling communities in the USA. So, where there is a will, cycling can coexist with hills.
