      i don't actually know. It's unusual.
      Might be an old Bellabike.
      Or an Esimex Buggy
      Or some small noname brand.
Never seen one like this before.

Interesting, but even with cycle lanes, motor vehicles and cycles are not really comaptible ? Fumes and erratic driving.

      Thanks.

Perseus1: We have a post regarding your comment on the Copenhagen Cycle Chic blog - called Patience & Respect. Compatibility is possible.

Great Picture,Motorists have a greater Respect for Cyclists in Copenhagen and Netherlands. In most Cities it is only possible to Cycle like this on Sunday to avoid all the Traffic and Fumes. Bad Planning and badly designed Cycle Lanes still giving Parity to Car Drivers.

    11. Mikael Colville-Andersen (61 months ago | reply)

Indeed, norbert malone. but fortunately there are cities that have done it so there is inspiration for others.

I would like to point out that compatibility is possible even without separated cycle lanes. Automobiles and bicycles are both vehicles, and road users of varying vehicle types can share a roadway without difficulty, simply by following basic right-of-way laws and using common courtesy.

It's not easy, and it's not common in the US, but it is possible -- and in some places, it's even happening!

    14. Mikael Colville-Andersen (61 months ago | reply)

This theory of vehicular cycling lacks evidence and science to back it up. Possible, perhaps. Just as a world without war is technically possible. But unlikely.

Segregated infrastructure is the only proven way to encourage more people to ride, as seen all over Europe and Asia.

      nice !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know about "encouraging people to cycle." I'm talking about actually cycling.

      Superb!

For 'encouraging' people to ride I can only agree that segregation works - it was the only way I could get my girlfriend cycling again. But now she's riding to work, mainly on the unsegregated roads (well, the UK never was a bastion of cycling infrastructure) because they're simply more practical and quicker to work.

Just about to send you a message Zakk....

    18. Patrick Barber (61 months ago | reply)

perhaps, then, segregated infrastructure is the "gateway drug" that will get people transporting themselves, and they will then avail themselves of the available roadways? That seems like a good plan to me, since then the burden of transporting everyone everywhere will not fall on the limited segregated infrastructure.

i've been thinking about this question more than usual lately... in the US at least, we have a vast surplus of asphalt, so I tend to think of many roads as bike roads even though they are shared with other vehicles. We've designed our roadways so that, in theory at least, there will never be traffic congestion. As a result, most roads are empty most of the time, and make great bike routes.

If we required segregated routes to get somewhere, we simply wouldn't be able to get most places. Meanwhile, it seems that the days of the personal automobile are numbered, so those ample, practical, well-maintained paved roads and streets will become more the province of human-powered conveyance.

I suppose it's a way of coming full circle, since paved roads in the US were designed for bicyclists to begin with.

By the way Zakk, thanks for the link to the two cargo trike makers. I am continually impressed by the variety of cargo trikes available.
