Marvelous Spatuletail (Loddigesia mirabilis)

Marvelous Spatuletail Biological Interpretation Station, Pomacochas, Utcubamba Valley, Amazonas dept., Peru.

This bird was one of our target species for our trip to Peru - we were extremely lucky to see it, and in fact saw several females as well as this male (which came only briefly to a feeder). The Biological Station has only recently opened, and the Spatuletails have also similarly only recently been visiting the feeders there. Quite a sight!

Peruvian Endemic, and Endangered. Refer to the IUCN Redlist listing for more information www.iucnredlist.org/details/143093/0.
