I wish goverment should pay a concern and pity to all the drivers. As everyone needs some money to survive today. Today, raising fuel and inflation topics have been discussed in press and society. Moreover, salary is not increased tremendously, people have family, everyone tries the best to give the best to their family, yet they lost their health. Please, i wish everyone has same feeling as i feel about the other. I don't wish to see people sad, become poverty. Love the world, love each other.

Sometimes I wonder why we work so hard to have a better life only to have some government trying to make it more and more difficult for us. Society really has lost their value. Income gap widens; money buys the right to use the roads. The only way we are moving towards is only India's abolished caste system, not directly, but certainly.

Hi Yeeck11, Singaporeans from Low and middle incomed families feel your pain and we know the struggles which everyday life throws at us. The reason i believe for these ERP in the first place was to curb the number of vehicles on our roads. The fuel hike is a global phenominan so there is honestly nothing the government can do about it unless they wish to susidise fuel.
Cars are meant to be a luxury (as such you can see more than 1 car in most private estate homes).
Imagine. Singapore currenlty has a population of 4.6 million or so. But the future will bring our population to 6million. This increase will be made up of mainly "Gai Jins" or outsiders, as I don't see Singaporeans wanting to have more than 1 child or even wanting to have a child in future due to work and financial issues. This increase in population will equal to the need for either more cars, public transportation or MUCH LARGER buses and LONGER trains as I am most certain everyone has experienced not being able to get onto a bus or if you manage to get onto one, someone's crotch will be pressing onto you.

My point basically is that there is a need to cut down the number of cars on the roads true. But why use EPR and money grouping methods. Instead, why not limit each family to have ONLY 1 car. If a family were to have more than 1 car, then shouldn't they be the ones to pay more since they can afford to have more luxury. Imagine if a family of 4 has 4 cars. Dad drives to work, mum drives to work, son drives to work / school and daughter does the same. Why can't they share a car or take public transport. Wouldn't this directly reduce the congestion on the roads?

I am not sure what everyone else thinks but there you have my 5 cents worth of thought.

The reason i believe for these ERP in the first place was to curb the number of vehicles on our roads. Yes, I agree but yet there is still jam in expressway and other place with ERP. Timing for the ERP has extended and more ERP is built at unnecessary place. In the future, I believe that the ERP will be turned on for the entire day.

    5. commander_padfoot (48 months ago | reply)

Probably so imevelyn, i believe that will be the case. Did you guys hear the rumor that the reason for all these ERP was also so that they are looking to abolish COE or road tax.

No point talking about this anymore. "they" just won't give a damn about your life or death, what "they" care are their pockets! What "they" give us are peanuts ('because "they" treat us as monkies). You know, "they" are the aedes mosquitoes, if you don't believe me , see what "they" hinted to us : "if "they" breed, you bleed!" So you know what to do the next round?

    7. ducados_2020 (48 months ago | reply)

they dun care about the citizen is wat i know.if they feel they wan to cut down the traffic,y not built more rd instead?after all, zeng hu bo kia lang si...

    8. commander_padfoot (48 months ago | reply)

Haha.. damn_terok, your equation of "they" to the Aedes Mosquitoes is damn funny. Alright then, I'll head home and pack my bags and probably move with my family. Won't want to see what happens when Singapore hits 6 million citizens.

Imagine placing an ERP gantry along Pedra Blanka and the bodies of water leading into Keppel Shipyard, Jurong Shipyard, Sembawang shipyard, etc.. 0_0"

    11. xxjunrenxx (48 months ago | reply)

my opinion is that maybe because of the rise in the numbers of cars, making the road jam. ERP is set at that particular place to make the road less congested. Somemore, we can think that Government do this just to encouraged us not to drive car unnessarily. Me too, was a driver but after i sold my car and pick up the habit of taking public transport, i spent less money every month n i can use that money to enjoy going outing with my family. Overall, i prefer my life without driving cars.

can our manpower minister do something to save cabbies' job?

    13. Finn_CKW (48 months ago | reply)

I thought the same as commander_padfoot on "1 family 1 car". Want more cars, pay for an extra $50k to their 2nd car, fair for all. The rest that wants to own more than 1 car, let them think very seriously.

    14. Hijab's Cool (48 months ago | reply)

Me n spouse end up taking public transport to work.. My car sleeps at the carpark everyday. We cant afford the petrol and ERP animore.. What can the government do to help us?

    15. Hijab's Cool (48 months ago | reply)

    18. emesty_59 (48 months ago | reply)

Hai ppl...what u all say correctlah... gov give us prob...not d public!! y not 1 car scrapped and 1 new car registered?? better like dat.. also, who want xtra cars must pay higher value say 100% of car value...Hee...hee..What u all think?? Here up there up but pay packet getting thinner coz boss say outsourcing.....!!! hemmm...

    19. 2wheelers (48 months ago | reply)

      Government -> 100% correct
      People -> 0% correct

Therefore, conclusion is, based on my calculation, Pay lah!!
or ride bicycle to work... no need to pay ERP..IU.. Road Tax,
      Insurance, petrol, etc, etc.

I'm a Courier man and needs to passes a lots of ERP GANTRIES on each and every days ok! If Singapore does not have we this type of ppl to go and serve you "guys" then you "guys" go and think where does the stocks or documents came from? Nowhere else EXCEPT us that need to send it over to you "guys" right?

If Singapore kept on increasing or building up ERP GANTRIES then do you "guys" think how long more that we can serves you "guys" down on the road?

I believe that if continues to be like that.... then.... ... ... COURIER COMPANY in SINGAPORE will sure be folded up 1 by 1. (Eg: DHL, FEDEX and many many more)

    22. Complaint_King (48 months ago | reply)

I think sooner or later Bicycle also needs to pay ERP when passes GANTRIES too!

I have been to Hong Kong and i am supprise that the fuel cost is double or more than here in singapore. And this is enough to make the driver to use their vehicles necessarily. Hong Kongers are very practical people, they consider carefully before owning a vehicle, unlike us Singaporean. Are you amused that despite so many alternatives that our system here uses and yet more cars on the road?

    24. gerrygc0814 (48 months ago | reply)

Singapore is so small!!! how come every inche we move on the road we have to pay ERP???!! does it makes any sense??? I mean I can understand we have to keep the traffic under control if not we will be like Thailand facing the major traffic conjession! but this is Singapore a small island! We are not big country why we have to pay so much to use the ROAD! Help!! I can't breathe!!!! To stay alive here we need alot of $$$$. No wonder Singapore is getting unsafe........

    25. fadhlullah_07 (48 months ago | reply)

i dont think this ERP cost should rise as for i for see there's no different in the the traffic . as for me i think it is getting worst. the government should re-think about the raise in the ERP they did. as we need to live too. we are all human. so lets be civilised. be more understanding and have some feeling for out fellow singaporean PLS!

    26. tsubakii2 (48 months ago | reply)

Well said on the extra charges for families who own more than 1 car. Why would student need to drive to work anyway? If they WANT to drive then they can pay more to contribute to government coffers which may use it more meaningfully. Also if ERP can tailor to vehicle categories it would be better. $10 to low or medium income everyday is substantial. $10 to a $200k, $500K, $1m car is loose change long forgotten and absolutely no feel. And after all these cars are destroying environment. I even wonder if $100 per gantry will mean anything to people driving a $1m car.

    27. King Parry (48 months ago | reply)

LTA said that the ERP system are meant to ease the traffic jam during peak hours, but i would rather jam daily than pay daily. Moreover, i don't see smooth traffic on roads during peak hours even though the ERP gantries are collecting money. So where do the money collected goes to? No one knows... No wonder so many people always says that our Goverment will take back $100 from us if they give us $10.

what the goverment want is money?

cmon ppl ! whats the point of talking in here ? do we gain anything ? or are we doing anything ? nobody dares to stand out !!! if only someone...............i will join in for sure ! i used to be very patriot to our country singapore , but than looking at what " they " did ..........i am furious & i cant do anything !!!! just like chopsticks , you cant break more than fifteen chopstick at one shot !!!! so wheres the integrity of singaporean ? isit only to sing & dance in national day & consider that integrity ?
when " they " say the ERP is meant for controling the traffic jam , i took it seriously & belive it ! i was so stupid ! i would rather pay them a resonable amount base on my income monthly and they leave us alone !!!! Everyone has a dream ! my dream is to settle down with kids & bring them out in the car to enjoy , i had only average income & the only thing i feel proud is that i had own a car & persuit on with my dreams!!! but look what " they " have done !! pay here pay there untill i have to sell my dreams ! whats wrong with having a only 1.3L malaysia made car ? cant we have just one car ? must "they" take away our only pride for a average income ppl ?
