Pirat oder Gentleman?

Der Mann übergab den ägyptischen Reiseführer seiner Frau, die im Zugabteil ihm gegenüber saß. Sie unterhielten sich über Museen, die Pyramiden und das sagenumwobene Gold der Pharaonen. Seit zehn Jahren machten sie regelmäßig Urlaub am Toten Meer, doch diesmal sollte es mal wieder eine Nilfahrt werden mit diversen historischen Plätzen und Heiligtümern, die sie noch nie besucht hatten.
Ich schätzte den Mann um die siebzig und das Alter der Frau musste entsprechend sein, obwohl sie viel jünger aussah als der schlanke, doch etwas verlebt wirkende Mann. Sein Gesicht war von einer Narbe quer über die linke Back gezeichnet und hätte er eine Augenklappe getragen und ein Kopftuch, wäre er sofort als Pirat durchgegangen. Doch er sprach liebevoll über ihren Hund, der nun für drei Wochen bei seiner Schwester in Pflege war, und er war höflich. Ein Kavalier der alten Schule.
Er erinnerte seine Frau an ihren allerersten Besuch in Ägypten, der mit einer Nilfahrt begann und mit einem zwei Wochen dauernden Strandurlaub am Toten Meer endete. Während der Nilfahrt hatte es einen Unfall gegeben, den ich nur aus Bruchstücken zusammensetzten kann.
„Der Schiffsjunge hatte selbst Schuld. Er hätte den auffälligen Passagier sofort melden müssen“, sagte der Mann.
Der Junge hatte sich mit einem Sprung ins Wasser gerettet, war aber von der Schiffsschraube leicht verletzt worden. Offensichtlich hatte der Passagier den Jungen mehrmals sexuell belästigt, was aber erst aufgefallen war, als die Unfallursache untersucht wurde.
Er hatte anfangs Geld angenommen, wollte das aber später nicht noch einmal. Der Passagier wurde festgenommen und viele Fahrgäste von einem sehr höflichen Beamten befragt, der von einem Kollegen von der Tourismus Behörde begleitet wurde.
„Als der mich das zweite Mal nach meiner Ausweisnummer fragte, war ich völlig verwirrt“, erinnerte sich die Frau.. „Das hatten wir der Polizei ja alles schon mitgeteilt. Dabei wollte er sich nur bei mir erkundigen, ob es für seine Tochter möglich wäre, in Deutschland zu studieren. Sie lerne am Goetheinstitut Deutsch, weil sie mit den Gästen in ihrem Land in ihrer Muttersprache sprechen wolle und nicht auf Englisch.“
Und dann erinnerte er das Ehepaar daran, dass in den europäischen Ländern viele ägyptische Kunstschätze aufbewahrt würden.
Der Mann sagte zu seiner Frau, er sei von dem Beamten gefragt worden, ob er das für richtig halte. Und daraufhin habe er geantwortet, dass er sich darüber erst eine Meinung bilden müsse.
„Das hat der Beamte akzeptiert“, erinnerte er sich und bemerkte weiter: „Es hat zehn Jahre gedauert und deswegen wird diese Fahrt eine ganze besondere sein, ein Ritual.“
Offensichtlich hatte er seiner Frau gegenüber diese Meinung schon mehrere Male geäußert, denn diese fragte an diesem Punkt nicht weiter nach.
Ich war neugierig geworden und hätte mich am liebsten in das Gespräch eingemischt, doch dann hätte ich zugeben müssen, dass ich neugierig war. Zu dem damaligen Zeitpunkt konnte ich mir das noch nicht gestatten.
Die Frage hat den Mann zehn Jahre nicht ruhen lassen. Zehn Jahre hat er um das Für und Wider gerungen und war offensichtlich zu einem befriedigenden Resultat gekommen. Gehören Kunstschätze auf den Boden ihres Heimatlandes? Oder sollten sie in die Obhut eines Museums gelangen, dass den Vereinten Nationen und damit der Welt gehört und nicht einem einzigen Volk. Ein Museum der Menschheit könnte ich mir vorstellen. Wenn es zu diesem Schritt der Völkerverbindung kommt, können meiner Meinung nach alte Wunden der imperialistischen Zeit geheilt werden. Gefühle der Demütigung schüren Gefühle der Rache. Gesten der Wertschätzung haben freundliche Gesten zur Folge.
Ein Museum der Menschheit erhebt keine Nation und erniedrigt auch keine. Der Geist des goldenen Zeitalters einer weisen Menschheit bricht an, wenn die Gleichwertigkeit aller Geschöpfe bei aller Unterschiedlichkeit anerkannt wird.

    ein sehr schönes Bild! ja, wir haben gute Gründen anzugeben warum wir andere Länder was weggenommen haben. Interessant wird es wenn jene Gründe nicht mehr da sind und wir trotzdem nichts zurückgeben wollen..
