Water and oil don't mix.

Quite a sight a little bit of cooking oil in water creates, once stirred up with a little bamboo stick. Below i have posted a setup shot of the scene, flash is at the left top of the shot.

Its bizarre how the oil droplets floating on the water surface, turn into perfect little liquid lenses.

~

Also, this shot was taken with a 85mm 1.8 nikkor, with the aperture set in between F8 and F11. Its extended with a very simple self made extension ring, using a lens protector cap (From the mounted back end) And a Body cap (The one that is supposed to be on when you choose to have a lens Un-mounted.) Both have holes drilled, then sanded down. Then ligned up exactly right + thin strips of carefully placed ducttape. (Afterwards did one layer of isolation tape, to smooth-en out the ducttape structure.) With this cheap technique, you can take great macros! However, there are a few cons to consider.

First off, the lens is now completely manual, witch means you will need a manual aperture ring on your lens.
Second, as the length of the lens is now further away from the sensor, the point of focus cannot any longer focus at infinity, but is now a macro lens only.

You will be able to focus in a small region, but i read that you should just move the camera,(correct when wrong! :)) and leave the lens at infinity (As the lens is at its best optically), if you want to get closer, you will have to devise some kind of extension tube in between the lens-cap converter modification.

Another great con is, The lens-cap and body cap, are not designed to lock on the lens, like the camera/lens mounts do, so Always be very careful with this setup not to knock off the lens. This especially when your turning your aperture ring. (I am working on a simple way how to give it a more sturdy whole. (Any idea's floating around??)

I think I'm ready for spring, i want creepy crawlies!! :)
