Marsh Fritillary (Eurodryas aurinia).

Marsh Fritillary (Eurodryas aurinia).

I finally caught up with my first ever larva of this species on Wednesday while carrying out a 'dry run' for butterfly transect walk I'm helping to take over this month. We found 2 larvae; one 17mm long and this one 22mm. A little worrying, as by this stage they should be about 30mm or a little less! The poor weather has presumably slowed down development!
