Yellow

And I do not want to be a rose.
I do not wish to be pale pink,
    but flower scarlet, flower gold.
And have no thorns to distance me,
    but be bright,
    bright as yellow,
    warm as yellow.

Hi, I'm an admin for a group called Independentphotos, and we'd love to have your photo added to the group.

      lovely!

HA! YAY! Another figurine photo! Plus, that's such a good song. Do you ever enter your stuff into the "Tell a Story in Five Frames" group? I think you could string together a powerful narrative with your different pics.

      Thank you very much Eni!

Thanks Stephen, I've had fun making these. This little girl is my tiniest figure, about the size of a finger nail.

Renee, isn't that song great? I will have to check out that group too!

Ooooh, this is great! I love the dof used, and the always creative surroundings :)

Oh, you've done it again! Simply beautiful, and wonderful! You know, you could do an amazing children's book with these captures.

      Erin,
Excellent craft in exposure, composition and depth of field. Wonderful mood and sentiment. The line,

have no thorns to distance me

      works so well here.

well, I guess I will have to second and third everything said here already!
I think, though, that the slight head tilt and the DOF/background blur suggest such grandiose futures for this little person.
      great piece. makes you think.

Thank you shotbart, I got her a little fake tree and then ended up just using sticks from outside :)

Phil, Allison and Erika - thank you so much!

Thank you Bill! I've thought about writing a little something to go with these. I'm so bad about writing. I love writing, I just don't do it.

      Shana, thank you :)

JP - that's my favorite line too. The whole song is about trying to live our lives openly and beautifully when inside it doesn't always feel that easy. Thanks for your kind words!

Jeff, I love your comment I imagine her looking out at this huge world in front of her with wonder and curiosity.

    14. 42leaves (52 months ago | reply)

Erin - everyone has said it before. But I have to add that I get the sense of wonder from this photo. It's fabulous (as usual). I can't believe she is as small as she is.

      YES, yellow makes us lucky!
what a nice poem! works well together with the photo!
( in german we say : GELD (money) macht nicht glücklich (doesn't make you happy), but GELB (yellow) macht glücklich (makes you happy)...see, what a power one letter has!!! ;-))

re: but I know: you also like pink!! :-))

Gasp. These are awesome. I love how the figure's boots look like pretzels. Maybe I need to eat my lunch now.

Striking colors and a totally captivating context.

I watch you create these miniature worlds piece by piece, and I am constantly amazed by your visions. I love how your photos leave the story open to individual interpretation.

I agree with Jeff on this one. I think that she decided to emerge from her woods and face the unknown.

    23. ErinTyner (52 months ago | reply)

Thank you Jane! I'm so glad my puppy hasn't eaten one of these yet :)

Thanks Broderick, Rachel and Antoinette for your wonderful comments!

Gundi, thanks for sharing that saying, it's quite true :)

      Thank you Melanie and Duane!

Aggie, now I see pretzels too! I think they are supposed to be dew drops or something, but you'd be surprised how lumpy and bumpy these little figures are. I'd love to see the tiny molds they use to make them.

Chris - thank you for putting up with the giant messes I make and leave on the table for too long. And thanks for being so sweet to me.

I saw the thumbnail of this and thought it looked pretty impressive. I even read the whole poem before seeing the tag "miniature" and noticing the girl wasn't quite real! Impressive and fun shot. I really like it.
