To Honor Surfing

In a small park on West Cliff Drive at Pelton Avenue in Santa Cruz, you will find a bronze statue of a surfer.

The original sculpture that bears the same title as this photo, was sculpted by Thomas Marsh and Brian W Curtis. It was commissioned and dedicated in 1992.

The male surfer stands holding his surfboard upright behind him. The pose, long board and short surf shorts, evoke nostalgia for the early days of surfing. Photos from that time often show a group of surfers lined up with their boards in the same pose.

Modern day surfers don wetsuits for the chilly Northern California waters in Santa Cruz..

Take a virtual tour of the park.
