I wish that I had a lens that shoots with a bigger aperture so that I could take sharper low light photos... but whatevs
Straight off the camera.

This is excellent and i agree that the skin tones are fab. I just got an f/1.8 canon 50mm lens - the 'thrifty fifty' less than £90 sterling and it is a great low light lens for you to try.

Actually, sharpness has nothing to do with maximum lens aperture. Most lenses shoot at their sharpest around f/8 or f/16.
A large aperture makes for a nice shallow depth-of-field, but may be harder to get the focus right.
The alternative is to shoot at f/8 or f/16 and use flashes/strobes to prevent movement in long shutter times. Or to get a large format camera and get those hundreds of megapixels for true sharpness.
In the end though, sharpness does not define (<--pun) a good photo.
