St Andrews Cross Spider- Best viewed large
I was out in the garden this afternoon and noticed this little chap. I decided not to miss the opportunity to take his picture seeing he was so kind to pose for me.

Wow! What are the funny zigzag things in its web?

This is almost too colorful to be true, so I tried to look it up and found "Argiope keyserlingi, St. Andrew's cross spider". I wonder if it's a different spider or just a different name.
Either way, great shot. This may be the one that drives me to get a macro lens.

Beautiful!
I saw some spiders with zigzags in their webs like this in Galapagos Islands. I just posted a pic of another Galapagos zigzag spider (Neoscona cooksoni) that does a more round pattern.
GREAT pic -- love the background too.
