    13th (Somersetshire Light Infantry) Regiment

    During 1842 the regiment was in Afghanistan fighting in the First Afghan War.

    The Regiment was active during the First Afghan War and the siege of Jellalabad. It was awarded the battle honours Ghuznee 1839, Afghanistan 1939 and Cabool [Kabul] 1842. Following this action the regiment was also awarded the honour of being named the 13th or Prince Albert's Light Infantry and was nicknamed the 'Illustrious Garrison'
