Mysore Zoo Elephant - Proud and Mighty
I took this photo in Mysore zoo. Although the zoo seemed
well-maintained and the animals well cared for, I couldn't help
thinking that all the animals looked forlorn - a look peculiar to
captive animals that belong in the wild.
This elephant greeted us with a spirited trumpet.

I had walked up to the elephant with little thought of getting a good shot. The zoo keeper was cleaning out the enclosure. He saw me with my camera and thought that I wanted the typical tourist-in-zoo shot, so he ordered the elephant to raise his trunk and salute us. I couldn't resist taking the photo, but it made me sad to see such a majestic animal being ordered around...

Can you tell us which elephant this was? Were there others in the enclosure as well?
