Cave chapel, Capadocia

Cave chapel, Capadocia

These wall and ceiling paintings are very old (I didn't note exactly how old, but I'm sure it's in the region of 300AD). Unfortunately, like almost all of them in the Capadocia cave chapels, they have been devoutly vandalised. Their eyes have been hacked out.

Although this was incorporated in a Bishop's palace built in about 300 AD, it is probably a bit filched from the more ancient Greek buildings judging from the fruit-like motifs associated with Artemis.
